Fish and Fia

While on a short break from my blog, I'm relocating to a new one. I'll have a blog warming with some cheesy footballs and Chardonnay once I've got through the next OU assignment.

I've had bit of luck too. After putting my first novel to sleep, I thought I'd enter a few comps before starting the next - which won't be chick lit as I obviously don't have the wit for it. Anyway, I'm a runner up in Fish's One Page Fiction. I may even go to Ireland to read my story in a clear, flat and unemotional voice. Except it will be squeaky and lispy.

That's very exciting, Fiona. As it's one page, I wonder if you'd post it on your blog - or do we have to wait until it's published to read it? Is this the new blog or the old one?

Thank you for visiting my blog. Keep in touch. I hope you to go Ireland - I'd be interested to hear about it (and a tad envious!) Well done again. How nice to be a runner up in a competition. They must have had thousands of entries.

Terrific news! Congratulations. Maybe you can reward yourself with a stay at Anam Cara, a fabulous (and reasonable) retreat in West Cork. Sue who runs it has a big connection with Fish.

I can't believe for a second you don't have the wit for chick-lit, and I thought the taster of your first novel was fab. It was the one about Army wives wasn't it? A colleague at work (who's an army wife herself) was saying on Saturday that she wished she had the talent to write one, because she'd love to read one and there don't seem to be any out there!! It made me think of yours.

Anyway, congratulations on being runner-up in the Fish comp, that's a fabulous achievement :o)

Well done Fiona, that's a great achievement.

I'm looking forward to the new blog. On the subject of chick-lit, I think you're right to diversify and not restrict your writing to one particular genre. However, I disagree with your self-assessment; you do have the wit!

I don't know what I'd do without writerly friends. My family are in a frenzy of indifference:

'Oh, a one page story? Easy then.'

'You didn't actually win or come third or anything?'

'You wrote about a bullet?'

'I found a bit of Ladro(?) at the car boot and it'll sell for more than you've won.'

But I'm happy. Fish were so friendly and the judges are all wonderful writers.
Well worth having a go.

Fia, I've tried on many occasions to get a short story published. I often feel, for me,it is easier to write a book!

Well done x

Fia, I'm still the same actually but bearing up. Have had so many tests and they still can't find out what's wrong. I have to have a CT scan next, there is only the kidneys and liver left. I suppose I've had a proper MOT then

I'll be starting back on my blog soon. Cheers medears x
