...but I have completed a very (very) rough draft of another novel. It is extremely light on words (just under 60,000), but the first half was basically film script (done last year) with a few extra bits added. I'm putting it to one side for now but hope to get back to it and finish a full-length draft by the end of the year. In the meantime, I have to sort out what research needs doing for two new editions of non-fiction books, plus plotting out a couple more novels.

You bet it counts.
Well done Graeme. You've already achieved loads this year.
Of course it counts! Well done and ditto Lane xx
Fantastic Graeme. Well done.
well done Graeme - Patrick Gale's latest novel is 45k I think!
Absolutely counts, well done and I just hope that I will be saying something similar by the end of the year.
That's not light on words. Brave New World, Great Gatsby, Old Man and the Sea, all clocked in at 40 to 45k. Definition of "novel" in the business world is a work of fiction 40k or greater. By that scale you have one and a half novels there.
But you're right, it probably doesn't count .....
Congrats, btw.
(Of course, if it had been a longer work, I would have spelled out "congratulations" and "by the way.")
:-) Many thanks all. It feels a bit of a cheat cos I usually manage 75k +
Onwards and upwards (after a cup of tea).
Congrats, Graeme. What a year this has been for you, productivity wise!
