Hello, I finally made it! I wanted to let everyone know that we've been linked from Troubled Diva (and Kate H got a link too). Mike, TD's author, gave a talk on blogging and writing at the Lowdham book festival last Saturday, and he contacted me beforehand for some background information. I mentioned the Novel Racers and he was very interested. The notes for his talk are on his blog, and well worth a read.
Mike has several hundred readers each week, so we may be getting more hits here than usual (if there is a 'usual' for this very new site!). Is anyone checking the stats? And should we put something on the sidebar about how to join, or do we want to stay small?
I'll do the profile/introduction thing soon, I promise. Isn't it great having a permanent coffee break? :-))

Hi Zinnia, it's evolving quickly isn't it? As a newcomer I was very pleased to be able to join the group but I guess it depends on how longer-standing members feel about expanding.
I've been pondering much the same thing. Maybe we could take a sort of virtual vote (does anyone knwo how to put a one of those voting polls onto here? ) for open door versus small (but perfectly formed.)
If the poll thing isn't an option than maybe we just open a post along those lines and ask people to state their preference in the comments.
What do others think?
Just read the Troubled Diva post - very interesting!
Re other joiners - I'm inclined to keep it small, to be honest. We all (kind of) know and trust each other already and while other people are free to read and comment on posts, perhaps the 'core' racers should stay fairly small. I'm open-minded though - will go with whatever the majority think.
Just wanted to come and say Hi - it has taken me a while to work out how to join - email was being kind to me so thanks to Nichola for being very patient and helping me sort it out! I missed taking part!!!!
I like it small (I don't have time to visit everyone daily as it is) but I also don't want to become a clique. There are too many writers groups like that already.
Ooh, the Troubled Diva post is most interesting!
Hmmm, size shouldn't matter and all that but I tend to agree that it should remain reasonably small though not closed ranks... I suspect it will find it's own level - it has been fairly constant for some time and the newcomers do bring something else with links and whatnot...
More people have fallen by the wayside than joined so I don't imagine we will ever become an out-of-control monster?
I like it small although the introduction of a newbie now and again is good. I agree with Jen's comment above.
I'm ambivalent about the size. I don't have time to visit everyone else's sites as it is, but being part of the race has helped me stay focused. I could go either way. (As long as I don't have to post every new member's link - the link list is getting pretty long. Which reminds me. If I don't have your link, please let me know so I can update my list.)
I'd like it to stay relatively small. I visit everyone's blog and I feel like I've got to know all the writers in the group. I'd be worried about the group getting too big.
Maybe we should set an upper limit on the number of racers and implement a waiting list so if anyone drops out someone else can take their place? I think we've had a few drop outs recently so, in theory, we've got space for a few more?
